Naxos Town is the capital and main port of Naxos Island. It has tiny roads, alleys, archways and old houses, in and around the old Venetian Castle. Litsa apartments is located 2-minute stroll to the Venetian Castle.

Naxos Town

Naxos Town is the island’s port and capital and it is the arrival point for all but air visitors. The town feels like four towns joined together: the port with the waterfront, the Old Town with the Venetian Castle (Kastro) and Saint George Beach greater area. It is a fine Cycladic town, with twisting narrow streets and alleys originally intended to confuse invading marauders. The Old Town, up on the hill, is divided into two neighbourhoods: Bourgos where the Greeks lived, and Castle (Kastro) above, residence of the Venetian-Catholic nobility.

Sightseeing

Portara is the most famous monument in Naxos. It is a huge gate, remain of the ancient temple dedicated to Apollo, which was built during the 6th century BC. It is located at the northern part of the port and can be seen from the ships which approach to Naxos.

The Venetian Castle. In 1207 Frankish rule was established in the Aegean. The Venetian Markos II Sanoudos built the fortress of Chora in Naxos with circuit towers, one of which, the Glezos tower (Crispi) is still preserved. Over the main entrance to the tower is the coat-of arms of the Crispi family. The castle area in Naxos Town is essentially a medieval town, preserved in the heart of the Aegean; it maintains more or less its original form. The castle is inhabited continuously from 1207 until today.

More sightseeing include, Panagia Myrtidiotissa, on an islet at the port off the quay, the Arcaeology Museum at Naxos Old Town, the Old Market around the Venetian Castle.

Great location and the views were amazing. Could see everything from the top Seaview room as well as access to the whole rooftop with table, chair and outdoor couch. Was also provided small area for food preparation and coffee machine. Maria was lovely and very helpful

I had a lovely stay at Maria's studio. Maria was a wonderful host, and even left me with a traditional homemade dessert made by her mother - delicious! The location is quite central. There are some lively clubs nearby, but with the windows closed the noise wasn't an issue.

Fabulous location in Naxos Town - so central with lovely views from the roof terrace of the Studio Sea View we booked at the top of the property. Looked exactly like the photos with a covered area with table and chairs plus a huge great open terrace with seating/cushions open to views and all to ourselves. Maria the host was like meeting family and so lovely and helpful. We would recommend and stay again.

Maria was an incredible host! She was so helpful and kind and had so many recommendations for us. The apartment was less than a 10 minute walk from the Naxos ferry port and there were so many restaurants and bars less than a 5 minute walk from the apartment. The closest beach was also less than a 10 minute walk away from the apartment. We would definitely stay here again if we came back!
